Filtration Products
Filtration product used to remove impurities and contaminants from liquids to make them clearer and ready for further use.
Filter papers are used in laboratory to separate liquid & Solid. Filtrate is a liquid pass through a filter paper and collect at the bottom in beaker or conical flask. Residue collect on filter paper. This is a method to separate solid from liquid.
When a mixture is poured onto filter paper placed in a funnel, the paper’s porous fibres trap the solid particles (residue), while the liquid (filtrate) passes through into a collection container. The selection of the correct type of filter paper is crucial and depends on factors like the strength, chemical resistance, and pore size needed for the specific application.
Common uses of filter papers are
- Separate solid & liquid
- Purify the solutions or Solvent
- Qualitative Analysis
- Quantitative Analysis
- Sample preparation for HPLC & GC
Syringe filters are used to filter a liquid and gases by membranes. It removes particulate matters & Sterilize liquids.
Few factors have to consider to select a Syringe filter
- Pore size: Based on the application; 0.22 μm for sterilization and 0.45 μm for general particle removal.
- Membrane material: material must be compatible with the solvent or liquid being filtered to avoid degradation or sample contamination. Common materials include PTFE for aggressive solvents, PES for buffers, and PVDF for biological substances.
- Sterile or non-sterile: For aseptic conditions Sterile & for General conditions non-sterile Filters are used.
